Behind the Photo Shoot, Part 2

Previously, we showed how we’ve been using white poster board to reflect light on our gorgeous lollipop models. Today we’ll show you our no-frills lightbox and a new technique we used with it at our recent photo shoot.
lollipops and lightbox

This is an ordinary storage tub made of clear but lightly frosted plastic. We’ve taped white tissue paper across it and laid a pile of Tangerine-Clove lollipops on the tissue paper. There’s one overhead lamp. It might be hard to see, but there are two gooseneck task lamps clipped to the edge of the bucket and pointed up at the tissue paper from below.

This new rig allowed us to capture truly dreamy looking photos of the lollipops that show off their clarity because the light, even though it’s diffuse, can shine through them.

When taking pictures of the Blumebox with lollipops, we reversed the location of the gooseneck task lamps and put the Blumebox inside the storage tub. Kate had to hold the task lamps in place over the tissue paper, which made her arms tired after a while!

What do you think of this technique? And do you like the pictures that we achieved with it? We’d love to hear suggestions for further improvement if you have any!
